Breakfasts Worth Waking Up For

Each breakfast is built from what the land offers and what the kitchen can make with care. Served in the conservatory where light floods across the table and the countryside spreads out beyond the glass, these are meals that matter.

Plate with cooked breakfast including two sausages, black pudding, fried egg, grilled tomato half, two strips of bacon, and a slice of ham.

The full Irish

Sausages, bacon, black pudding, eggs cooked to order. Generous and honest, the kind of breakfast that stays with you through a day of walking or surfing or simply breathing in the Atlantic air.

Plate with scrambled eggs, smoked salmon on slices of brown bread, and three tomato wedges.

Smoked salmon

Fluffy scrambled eggs on brown bread, a lighter touch that tastes of the sea. Simple, perfect, made fresh while you watch the countryside wake.

White plate with four folded crepes dusted with powdered sugar, topped with two strawberries and several blueberries, placed on a yellow textured cloth.

Sweet crepes

Fresh berries and cream folded into thin pancakes, a touch of elegance on the plate. The kind of breakfast that makes you linger over coffee and conversation.

Two cooling racks filled with freshly baked golden-brown scones on a stovetop.

Homemade scones

Warm from the oven, split and buttered, with jam and clotted cream. Everything baked in-house.

Location

On the edge of the Atlantic

This remote corner of Ireland's west coast remains wild and unspoiled, a Gaeltacht region where Irish is still the language of daily life and The Irish Times named it the best place in Ireland to go wild. Brú Chlann Lír means home of the Children of Lir, one of Ireland's most beloved legends, and the island of Inishglora where the four swan-children found peace after 900 years lies visible just offshore.

This cozy and intimate bed and breakfast felt like staying in a friend's home. My partner and I traveled to the mullet peninsula to get away from the crowds and spend 3 blissful days in Co. Mayo doing absolutely nothing. And that's what we did, in utter and complete comfort at Bru Chlann Lir! Josephine was an attentive host who saw to our every need.
